By Lisa Davis of The Star Beacon
At the annual Geneva-On-The-Lake Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau members banquet three award were presented and the annual Citizen of the Year Award Thursday, The banquet was held at Indian Creek Resort and was a big night for owner Edward Andrus who was named Geneva-on-the-Lake Citizen of the Year. “Over the past years, our citizens of the year have been artists, politicians, poets, local leaders, and an occasional businessman,” said Donald Woodward, special projects director for the bureau. “Some have been lifelong residents. Others have come to the village later in Life.” Andrus was surprised to hear his name called as Citizen of the Year, he said. “I am very much surprised,” he said. “It’s a good town with good people. It’s a wonderful place to raise a family.” Andrus and his family moved to Geneva on the Lake in 1964 and started the Indian Creek Resort. He also served as fire chief for the GOTL Volunteer fire Department, a member of the village planning committee and Chamber member. Andrus also was a founding member of Ashtabula County tourism Inc. “In our resort, long hours and hard work are the only routes to success,” Woodward Said. “This recipient knew that this was the formula long ago. Our honoree has not only worked hard, but also worked smart.” Andrus, wife Dottie of 54 years was shocked when her husband’s name was announced. “I think he is very deserving,” Dottie said. The next project for Andrus is a 47 unit condominium project on the lake across the street from Indian Creek. Lake Erie Vista Condominiums will consist of five stories, Dottie said. Construction should begin this summer. Andrus and Dottie have four children; sons Edward II, Donald, Scott and daughter Donna. “I am very much surprised,” he said. “it’s a good town with good people. It’s a wonderful place to raise a family.” - Edward Andrus
